HTC P3450 Touch Review – A World of Technology in the Palm of Your Hand

Friday, November 16th, 2007

The HTC P3450 Touch is much more than a great looking mobile phone. With Windows Mobile 6, a convenient touch screen, and a fun, user-friendly interface, the HTC Touch is mobile productivity right at your fingertips with a compact, lightweight design that is simply beautiful.

Available in either a satiny black finish or unique wasabi green, the HTC Touch has a smooth casing that doesn’t show fingerprints as badly as the glossy handsets currently on the market and fits quite comfortably in your hand. The 2.8 inch full colour touch screen makes up most of the face and is the primary way to control the phone’s functions.

The HTC Touch emphasis the interactive display with a seamless design and very few buttons or keys to obstruct it. A small volume rocker is located on the left side and the power button blends into the top of the phone’s casing. The only keys found on the outside of the phone are the small call and end buttons and a thumb-sized navigation pad, located just below the screen.

The stylus, hidden on the upper right backside of the HTC Touch handset, can be used to navigate through the phone’s menus and applications, but is most useful for typing text messages or emails on the virtual keyboard. The start screen displays the time and provides convenient, one touch access to the weather and several other useful applications. With a simple swipe upward on the screen with your thumb, the TouchFlo interface is activated, allowing you to choose from a variety of media functions.

Moving your thumb sideways across the screen creates a three-dimensional turning effect as the HTC Touch displays the contact menu or continues turning to access the phone’s other applications, including Microsoft Mobile Office Suite, Windows Live Messenger, Internet Explorer, and a fun ringtone editor to trim MP3 tracks into the perfect ringtone. The HTC Touch requires a firmer finger than most touch screen devices, so using the phone without the stylus may take some adjustment.

The HTC P3450 Touch features several advanced contact options. You can conveniently transfer address book data from Outlook on your laptop or PC, input your contacts using the vcard function, or simply add them from the touch screen. Photo caller id and individual ringtones are also options. Once a contact is located, you can easily select to call any of the given numbers, send a text message, email the individual, or even visit their webpage.

While taking a call, the HTC Touch has a special screen that allows you to place the call on speaker phone, on hold, or mute the volume. You can also view your contacts with a single touch while you talk or write a short note regarding your conversation for future reference. The calendar is just as versatile with a variety of views and detailed options.

The HTC Touch is not only functional, productive, and quite good looking, it is also fun. The 2 megapixel camera is very basic with no flash or auto focus, but all the settings can be accessed directly from the touch screen. The picture quality could be better but the Touch takes acceptable photos and videos for multimedia messaging and other mobile applications. There is also a music player featuring a new audio manager that makes it simple to manage playlists and more.

While many think the HTC P3450 Touch can’t compete with the similar Apple iPhone, the HTC Touch is one of the best looking smartphones available with a Windows operating system. If you want an attractive, stylish mobile with all the basic features, an interactive touch screen, and a variety of productivity applications, but don’t mind the lack of 3G, the HTC Touch is just the phone.
